LIFE IN THE 80's

This always happens to me when I get to see a movie, I get incredibly engrossed in it. So much so that I read every tidbit I get out of it in Wikipedia and I get really into it like a damn research project. I first saw "The Breakfast Club" 2 years ago from my friend, Ryan's DVD set of 80's movies. And yes, I even made a blog post out of it. Then suddenly I found the files of "Sixteen Candles" and "Pretty In Pink" in my hard drive from Toch so I spent the past few weeks watching them on my iPod during my spare time.

I finally finished both movies and the 80's I must say is one heck of a decade! I love John Hughes. I love the way he tells stories and it's these movies that can be so inspiring. One of the best things about it is that how it is pretty much relevant until now! You know what I mean? It's crazy that after 20 years or so that it was made, it's still being watched and talked about.

Upon watching the movie and realizing that they are representing the 80's youth and they are probably not in their prime anymore I decided to search and find photos, do a little before and after comparison and ask WHERE ARE THEY NOW???

He also starred in other John Hughes' films such as The Breakfast Club and Weird Science. Oh and I also saw his movie as Bill Gates in "Pirates of the Silicon Valley" in one of my classes. He's still active and last show he did was The Dead Zone and guest starred in Community. He was the geeky Ted in Sixteen Candles.

The illustrious Jake Ryan of Sixteen Candles. He was the quintessential dream guy for Samantha Baker in the movie and he also started out as a fashion model did you know? Not since Sixteen Candles has he had other prominent roles and has lived on to oblivion not having any recent pictures of him surface.

John Hughes' muse! 2 of his movies were written with her in mind I believe and she's considered as the greatest teen actress ever. Having that status sure is daunting as the public has never moved on from her teenybopper persona. She appears to be successful and relevant up until now and stars as Shailene Woodley's mother in "The Secret Life of the American Teenager". How convenient!
A few  drinking problems here and there but he's made a great crossover from big screen to small screen over the past few years starring in TV shows as either its director or the actor. Recently he has directed episodes of Gossip Girl and yeah, there's nothing much to say about him either. He was Andie Walsh's (Molly Ringwald's character) love interest in Pretty in Pink.
Philip "Duckie" Dale might be his first defining role in Pretty in Pink but he's managed to be on television and survive the turmoil of being dormant by starring in "Two and a Half-men". A highly successful show having 9 seasons to date. He's the stylish and eccentric admirer of Andie in the movie and he's gotten so far from doing that.

Watching these movies made me feel like being young is the best time of one's life but then this phase doesn't last. Being a teenager doesn't last and the concept of Forever Young is bogus. So just when you thought you'd always be this eager, this budding and this pumped up with life... you grow up and suddenly your good looks, popularity and status have passed you by. You consider what you have and will leave behind because after all that's what's important. You can only then hope that you'd remain relevant and an icon just like these movies.

DENIM NEVER FADES

[LATE POST BUT FORGIVE ME]

Clueless about the brand "ENERGIE" I decided to pay the store a visit in Robinson's Manila last January 5, 2012. (I got really busy so here I am making up for it) Apparently, ENERGIE has been around way before than we might have thought of. They're immensely known for their denim which is under continuous innovation under the label and this graduated on to other items such as shoes, underwear, eyewear, eventually becoming a fashion retail brand. The label is quite a throwback to the retro and vintage american wear but with their modern, slimmer and impeccable designs there's no surprise that what they sell are essential wardrobe staples you just got to own!

I found a pair of jeans I really really liked but unfortunately I don't have a photo of myself wearing it just cause my camera is still under repair! Lucky for me I managed to retrieve these shots! :) Will post a look of myself wearing ENERGIE jeans soon.

Try to drop by and see for yourself just what this new and exciting store has to offer!
Visit them in Robinson's Manila the soonest that you can! :) http://www.energie.it/

Meet Estela Bagos (http://estelabags.tumblr.com/). Coolest bestfriend I have who doesn't have an inch of pretension to her name and is the most genuine person I have met. She's part of this year's Candy's Council of Cool and I obviously want you to spread the word about it. And make it known how much I'm proud of her! She's always been supporting me since day one and I just want to support her this time around cause she has the spotlight on her! :> She's going to be contributing for them, blog for them and basically be your number one confidante if you want anything to be written about you. Go grab a copy of this month's Candy Magazine and declare your love for her in return. Alright?

#KATSUCRAZE

At the 2nd floor of the Atrium in SM Megamall can be found the newest, most happening resto in the Metro today. The month of its launch, my Twitter timeline was just exploding with tweets from random people, bloggers and personalities expressing gusto and fulfillment in having dined in at Yabu! I for one was lucky enough to have been invited to taste and experience what this quaint authentic Japanese eatery had to offer.

Katsu is an abbreviation of "Katsuretsu" which means cutlet. This refers to a sliced piece of meat that is breaded and deep-fried introduced to Japanese culture during their steady interactions with the Westerners. Over the course of time, pork ("Ton" in Japanese) was also used in these meals giving rise to "Tonkatsu" to the Japanese cuisine as well.
Arrived at around 1 in the afternoon and had to wait around 10-15 mins just to be seated because it was packed! You should've seen the line and the amount of people eating at this place. We could always blame the hype but then again if the service, product or item delivers its promise then it's worth the hype! Haha.

Interestingly enough the interiors of the placed also proved to be "appetizing" to the visuals.
Ordered this Chicken Katsu in Curry Sauce and its serving was intense. Sorry for a lack of better description but let me just say I didn't get to finish the whole dish because I was already full halfway through! Could you imagine that? You guys seriously have to have an empty stomach before dining here.

The very interactive Do-it-Yourself Special Katsu Sauce wherein you have to (1) Grind the sesame seeds, (2) Pour the sauce (3) Mix and lastly (4) Dip you katsu in it!

Busy grinding. Hahaha.

This was what Jamie (www.swinglish.tumblr.com) had. I think this was the Jumbo Prawn Set something. I forgot what it's called. Haha. Sorry for being not filling in the shoes of a professional food blogger. I'm being very relatable about this whole thing. ;)
Meet Jamie (if you haven't met her throught my blog posts)! She lives in Sweden now but she always goes home in the Philippines during her breaks. It's always cool and fun catching up with her and know more about her above average life. haha! The only trade-off is that this girl never seems to stay long enough! Hahah jk
JUMBO

And because it was my birthday last time she gave me a gift from her recent Christmas vacation in Korea! She found this very unique sticker set that features vintage designs.

Too special to use. Will have these stickers scanned and reproduced first! HAHA

So if you're planning for that next awesome dining experience, you just have to head to Yabu (FACEBOOK) in SM Megamall. It's perfect for both being in a large group of friends or enjoying it with just a person or two! Best place to hang-out and catch-up with a dearly missed friend just like what I did! Hahah and besides you can never ever go wrong with the first and only authentic Katsu place in Manila, Yabu!

Look at my new desktop wallpaper!!! JUST KIDDING. Hahah hooray for great clothes. And Fifth Code, of course.
See how awkward I get when it comes to outfit photos so I ditched the idea and made a collage instead.
