At the 2nd floor of the Atrium in SM Megamall can be found the newest, most happening resto in the Metro today. The month of its launch, my Twitter timeline was just exploding with tweets from random people, bloggers and personalities expressing gusto and fulfillment in having dined in at Yabu! I for one was lucky enough to have been invited to taste and experience what this quaint authentic Japanese eatery had to offer.

Katsu is an abbreviation of "Katsuretsu" which means cutlet. This refers to a sliced piece of meat that is breaded and deep-fried introduced to Japanese culture during their steady interactions with the Westerners. Over the course of time, pork ("Ton" in Japanese) was also used in these meals giving rise to "Tonkatsu" to the Japanese cuisine as well.
Arrived at around 1 in the afternoon and had to wait around 10-15 mins just to be seated because it was packed! You should've seen the line and the amount of people eating at this place. We could always blame the hype but then again if the service, product or item delivers its promise then it's worth the hype! Haha.
Interestingly enough the interiors of the placed also proved to be "appetizing" to the visuals.
Ordered this Chicken Katsu in Curry Sauce and its serving was intense. Sorry for a lack of better description but let me just say I didn't get to finish the whole dish because I was already full halfway through! Could you imagine that? You guys seriously have to have an empty stomach before dining here.
The very interactive Do-it-Yourself Special Katsu Sauce wherein you have to (1) Grind the sesame seeds, (2) Pour the sauce (3) Mix and lastly (4) Dip you katsu in it!
Busy grinding. Hahaha.

Sorry for being not filling in the shoes of a professional food blogger. I'm being very relatable about this whole thing. ;)Meet Jamie (if you haven't met her throught my blog posts)! She lives in Sweden now but she always goes home in the Philippines during her breaks. It's always cool and fun catching up with her and know more about her above average life. haha! The only trade-off is that this girl never seems to stay long enough! Hahah jk

It's perfect for both being in a large group of friends or enjoying it with just a person or two! Best place to hang-out and catch-up with a dearly missed friend just like what I did! Before we get down to the blow-by-blow account of our 4 day stay in the wonderful land of Singapura. Let's discuss how this place resembles one big shopping mall. I swear I did not expect this place to be just hoarding all the best clothes. So the here's the lowdown on the stores I got to visit!Parang sa Rockwell lang.Wanted to get this but I had to stick to my budget.Good ol' days I had to style a mannequin for that RSSI Internship last summer. Still fresh on my mind. Haha.Mob ready forrr....Didn't get to buy anything because nothing was interesting enough. I was looking for that Versace for H&M jacket Kanye West was sporting but it was out of sight. Oh well, I still think this store is overrated. Hahah.Thennnn BOOM my favorite store. If there's one store I never miss it's Uniqlo. Best store for basics!!And I never leave without buying one perfect pair. (My sister went mad and got 4 pairs. Power of persuasion nga naman)Didn't go inside because madami naman yan dito hahahCoolest store I got to discover. There was one store which was purely menswear. How dope was that!! Forever 21 had not 2, not 3 but 4 freaking floors. It was crazy. Just how many items could they possibly sell =)))).The end.

...So the back story. Initially wanted to have a party but then I had one last year. Then it crossed my mind to just give back to charity but I plan that for when I'm more stable in life. And so finally, my mom suggested if I wanted to travel to Singapore and the answer was obvious --- duh. Packed my bags I did then left last Dec. 23 and arrived the same day! It was my first time as well as for my sister. Dad's second time and my mom's uhhh 8th time. She was our tour guide for the whole trip. How cost efficient. Hahah. Sorry for being such a tourist but I got fascinated when I saw him bill the fare straight to the credit card. If Singapore has that edge against the Philippines.... it would be the stellar, magnificent, awe-inspiring... architecture and designs they have across this lively city. Not to mention the cleanliness of their surroundings. Backdrop is the Marina Bay Sands hotel Yeahp yeahp suited up for my birthday My parents' Singaporean friends plus their kids =)) Late night shopping at Orchard RoadI also envy their public transport system which was highly organized and efficient. No time was wasted, nobody shoved to the sidelines and it was the most hassle-free commute I ever had. I really wouldn't mind taking the MRT or LRT any day just as long as it's the same as with Singapore. It's was a beautiful journey in that train. Haha kidding aside, I'm serious.

Day of my birthday!!! Okay it's not that big of a deal anymore when you're 19. I hope somebody warned me it will just be yet another day. (emo) Hahaha although I spent it in Universal Studios. I thought it was a lame idea but I was wrong, had fun way more than I expected. Sentosa's like this really big island which was developed for commercial use and it's vastness was unbelievable. Yeahp we didn't pass on the kiddie rides. Hahaha. Canopy Flyer. I blame this for leaving me nauseous all throughout the day. #NeverAgain One thing I believe is true is that if you're a girl you look like your dad. And you look like your mom if you're a guy. Any takers on this theory? I should be a biologist. Me being nauseous. Probably the only time I've waited for something in my life FOR SO LONG. STOOD IN LINE FOR... FOR 2 freaking HOURS. It was inhumane but it was well worth it. I think experiencing this was the highlight of our trip and it was NOT anything like I've ever experienced before. It just makes you think just how far mankind has gone with technology. A+++++ Singapore's biggest mall! Vivo City still in Sentosa Island.We take the train, ride the cab and hop on a bus. Busy being average commuters in Singapore.When we got to the hotel we just had room service and chatted up with each other. Didn't imagine my birthday to be that short but rad!

Started the day by hearing mass. My mom was freaking out that we just have to hear mass because it's Christmas day. I like it about her that's she's very close to God. :) Both her and my dad actually pray the rosary everyday. I wonder if anyone in this generation will still do that by the time we grow old. Went back to Sentosa but in another part of the island just to see what was happening in Imbiah Station. Went back to our hotel cause nothing was that exciting up there.Night time. This structure was particularly cool and caught my eye because it's laced with hundreds of square tin sheets that were moving along with the gust of the wind. It resembled the waves in the ocean! Quickly fascinated by these things. Marina Bay Sands up close at night. This building is becoming Singapore's newest iconic landmark. As if there aren't plenty already. Haha Inside the shoppes at marina bay sands. Had time to spare so we went to the Titanic Artifact Exhibit in the Arts & Sciences Museum. They were celebrating the 100 years since Titanic was made!! Legendary. Legitimate items found in the wreckage of Titanic under the Artic Ocean. Preserved and creepy when you come to think of it. The owners of these items died inside the doomed ship. Funny quip at the comments booklet. Had dinner at HY CaliforniaStrolled around Marina Bay and gawked at all of the lights... Hahaha

Last day in Singapore!!!

Was at Orchard Road very early that day. Shops were still closed but that didn't stop us from checking them out from the outside. Hahah My parents. Hahaha. So lucky to have these two. So lucky to have them still young and enjoy travelling with their kids. So lucky that they can make us travel and provide for our wants that we make appear as our needs. Sorry for appearing stoic throughout the whole trip, it was because of my headache!! But I sincerely enjoyed and appreciate all of your efforts. Thank you!!And with that I bid goodbye to Singapore. 4 days of non-stop exploring, discovering, interacting and bonding. So many memories made and as my mom said, you have to store these fun, joyful memories to brave the sad ones that will inevitably present along in your life. Christmas season isn't over so I wish everybody is having a swell, meaningful time with their families. :)

STATUS YARD SALE

First bazaar I'm ever part of and it's with STATUS! I honestly didn't have my mind invested on my finals because I had this to prepare for, get stressed with and look forward to! But then again my stock knowledge is pretty reliable and judgment day (course cards day) is tomorrow sooo wish me luck! Haha! Being the newbie that I am, I think I did well and earned a decent amount from selling pre-loved items and of course the blazers. Fun way to test the waters and see if the bazaar loving type of people would be interested in them and surprisingly there were takers. Took measurements and also sold Fifth Code blazers and for that I conclude this participation was a success!! Thank you to everybody behind STATUS Yard Sale, congratulations!!

I remember I was in Starbucks with Toch trying to watch him go through and edit the videos for Fifth Code's anniversary when I got a call from Adrianne for this ed. Got really stunned when I heard about being part of it more so when I heard the names of the other menswear designers he was including for this editorial. Most of my friends started complaining about how my blog isn't as updated as before. And by that, I really mean...5? Okay, 7 friends!! Haha all of them brought up that they did not like not seeing fresh content on a daily basis and I'm always posting about fashion all the time that is if I'm not promoting something. And because my friends are my readers I've decided to hear their plea! Hahaha.

I'm a lazy blogger and I'm far more lazy in taking pictures and posting them on my blog. That is why, for the sake of "updating" my blog here are some photos from my iPod Touch. The logic here is that I carry my iPod everywhere with me and by that you are assured that these are bordering private photos I'm sharing with all of you!! Fair enough? GO TAKE A PEEK! I do not look happy. Lunch with Roi and Jamie in Katipunan earlier this year. This was in June, I think. And I remember being with Patty and Isa grabbing Crave Burger that night. The talented, the magnificent, the death-defying, Nikki Ruiz!!!! Missing her now that we don't have classes together. Patches to save the day. This was my Colrend painting for our Finals. I entitled this "Russell meets Buchog". No joke. Messy hair and everything else. Esme now sports a short hair. Dad's birthday at a restaurant in Malacanang. Hahah legit. See, I'm the type of person who makes time for friends. Karl and Ryan are my HS buddies!! Went to our condo in Pico de Loro in Batangas! Helped out in a styling stint for the now defunct show "Good Vibes" with David Gargollo. I was tasked to help choose the outfits for Sam Concepcion and Enrique Gil. That is all. That went on for hourssss and I got drained. And never went back. Hahah! The Collective with Yuuri, Eliz and Lexie one random Friday night. Oh, this was when we, I mean, I accompanied my sister.... to MOA to watch... Justin Bieber. Hahah. K. I don't remember what we did but this was in Dunkin Donuts with John, Jet and Ryan. =)) I didn't consume all of it. Promise.This was when we watched "Babae sa Septic Tank" in CCP! Great, funny, intelligent movie!! Fashion figure sketching at 3 in the morning. One of the coolest days when I met BJ Pascual for a shoot! With him, JJ, Amanda and Nathan! Assisting my way throughout the day That's Denise and Patty. Talking about how to save global warming. Haha kidding. These crazy people. Lyka and Cheyser. Can't forget when we went to Izakaya one night. CRAZYYYY Pasalubong from parents! Sprinkles Cupcakes! and the local Sonja's cupcakes. :)) Another shoot with Patrick and JJ! Karlo's watch. BB's 18th birthday. With Estela, Levo, Erin, Ariana, AA, Mikka and Luigi! Fun night... for most parts. Copies from abroad. Got to love my Tita! My best pal in this world, Estela!! One day in Anvaya. Oh, we were touring a visiting relative around. :) Black Eyed Peas in Manila!! Watched with Ryan, Karl and Roi. Which was funny cause Roi ended up watching alone! hahaha Biggest shoot ever! Honestly, not blogging has done me good. I've done way so much more with my time and been to gatherings and events not worrying about how to blog them. I've lived through every minute and everything feels more real. Yes, it reached to a point where I had to attend something just so I could post something but in the end, does it really matter? Hahaha!

Unless and until you will complain, I will be milking out the photos from this shoot we did for Fifth Code for future blog entries. Hahah. I'm proud of this team!! Lyka probably took almost close to 4,000 photos just to give you an idea. More candid and outtakes from these cool people!

Anyway, a fact I'd like to bring up is how every model has credentials to their names already. (1) Daniel Velasco was Candy Cutie of last year and has already done commercials & print ads for Globe & Jollibee. (2) Patrick O'Neill is a soccer player/ model appearing as one of this year's Cosmo Hunks. (3) James McDermott is a Candy Cutie this year and has a currently airing Globe commercial! (4) Micco Sollano is a friend way back in LSGH and he's that kid you used to see playing basketball on those Milo packs. A student athlete as well. Lastly, (5) Anton Neric is also a student model from Ateneo doing ramp and commercial work.

Gathering the 5 of them has been tedious work and I'm glad I didn't have to resort to just picking anybody out due to desperation. Getting them has been a privilege for Fifth Code as well! So thankful that they agreed to be part of the shoot! :)

GARAGE NOVEMBER 2011 FEATURE

When Garage's Editor-In-Chief emailed me telling me that they were going to feature me as one of the emerging menswear brands of the Metro I was feeling very apprehensive. Apprehensive because (1) I was still an architect not the engineer (let me get to that later) and because (2) I did not know what to wear for the photoshoot. Hahah! Seriously though, this opportunity does not come around so often and when this is being handed to you, you go for it. But in my perspective, I went for it with the realization that it doesn't end after the feature. That more than ever the pressure will be higher and I have got to prove something in the end.
We're gearing on for our last term in our 2nd year and then after that we say hello to our 3rd year --- the year when it's all about the real thing. Cutting, sewing, making patterns, drawing, YEP the whole deal. I'm so excited to learn and engage in this already because after all, that's what I'm in Fashion Design for. And you really can't call yourself a designer unless you undergo the discipline. So that what I'm going to do folks... let Fifth Code grow with me. And one day, I believe this feature will be the one which fueled the fire. :)

Stache featured me as one of their "Suki Stylists" along with my good friends Esme Palaganas and Vincent Ong. Okay, I know there's so much that a stylist has to go through to become a legitimate stylist and I think this feature is pretty clear that we're in it because we do help out in the shoots Stache Magazine organizes. Okay, it's not that clear so I hope that irons things out. Haha!

I love helping out behind the scenes and learning from the people who are doing it professionally. And again, there's so much I have to learn and do before I even can say I am a stylist. For now, let's just say I'm doing it because it's fun more than anything. Everyone starts from somewhere, right? :)

Last October 15, I had the opportunity to style young photographer BJ Pascual who is, safe to say, the ultimate poster boy for the "behind-the-scenes celebrity" if you will. That day was hectic because I launched Fifth Code's 5th lookbook as well as it was my mother's birthday! :) But I always say I'd rather be busy than be a bum. Getting all stressed out somehow gives me the adrenaline rush. It was a fun shoot since everybody's mindset was just for it to look great!

OXYGEN SPRING/SUMMER

Ever since OXYGEN had an image overhaul last year things they have been fairly consistent in exciting the public. Talking to their Merchandising Manager, Raul D. Jante, he said that this change was both a conscious effort on their part as well as the management. And rightly so, from their too-much-graphic-going-on aesthetic they went out to be more sleek, cosmopolitan, edgy and fashion forward. Rocking an OXYGEN item really isn't for those who are afraid to take on the spotlight.

Elephant in the room is that I used to ignore the store when I shop but it's worth checking out this time around. A change of heart for me! Especially with the release of their new collection, such items are essential to be part of my stuff! OXYGEN has made me love them again, albeit it took much time, it never was too late. :)

Fifth Codestarted out like this. Humble and unnoticed. No onereally knew what it was all about and if it had what they call staying power.Then we released the secondcollection succesfully (withthe two-toned and military blazer being the top sellers). Then the third collection went out with a bang introducing avery edgy and carefree persona of a Fifth Code client. We also had a shoot withblogger / style icon, the David Guison for the online magazine Stache. A fewmonths went unnoticed since then, until, just this month, Fifth Code finallyappeared on the pages of GarageMagazine Oct 2011 issue. It really does feel amazing to see it in Garagewhich has been a goal of some sort since Day One.

I want to thank everybody who have been helped me and showed their support,all the clients who have had Fifth Code blazer made (you know who you guysare) and lastly to all those who have liked the Facebook page, thankyou!!!! Here's to hoping that I never run out of ideas for blazer designs andthat all of you will continue to be on your toes for what's next!

BTS ANNIV SHOOT

On the way to Subic, Anton (one of the 5 models I got for this shoot) asked me how I started Fifth Code. And I really hate explaining so I gave out a few reasons which ultimately boils down to "wala lang." Hahah. No, seriously speaking, it was something I had in mind and I wanted it to materialize and so, just like what the Nike ad said, I just did it. Anton then went on to saying that I'm lucky that my parents are really supportive and heck, I couldn't agree more.

For our Anniversary Collection (which by the way is officially on Oct 25, the day I launched Fifth Code) it was an ambitious shoot but again, I knew I had to do it. Hahah. Gathering 5 guys game enough to don the blazers and take some time off to join the shoot in Subic was quite a challenge. Even the team I asked to help me live out the theme of this shoot was tasking enough to form. Lastly, the location which was all the way in Subic Yacht Club seemed to be quite a hassle but was necessary for this and I'm glad I got what I wanted (for this, thank you Tita Marie and Tito Cesar Cruz!). We all met-up at 8am in Trinoma last September 11, 2011 (Yes that's 9/11), a 2 hour drive to the location, shoot lasted for a good 5 hours or so and that was it!! Months and months worth of planning finally executed and now it's time for the thank you's!!

My mom told me that if you're doing something God wants you to do, you will just be surprised by how He gives you the right people in your life to help you. And so far, I see no way of contesting that claim. Sending my thank you's to Lyka Orhel, Isabelle Dee, Toch Barreiro, Shara Lim, Daniel Velasco, Micco Sollano, Patrick O'Neill, James McDermott and Anton Neric. As well as to those who have been part of Fifth Code in one way or another Victor Manuel, Roi Marcial, Esme Palaganas, Pat Nabong, Wency Ang, Lui Sunico, Aldrich Lim, Patty Mendoza, and Nikki Ruiz! I. CAN. NOT. STRESS. IT. ENOUGH. THANK. YOU. FOR. ALL. THE. HELP. This is pretty much shared success and I'm very grateful that you have all been part of this!

Life can be sweet and it's always a cycle of feeling awesome one day and down the next. Haha. And just when I least expect it, my friend, Toch Barreiro, tweeted me last night that he saw Fifth Code blazers on the pages of GARAGE. I've learned not to expect so as not to be disappointed (again) so it really came as a surprise. When the blazers are pulled out for a shoot, there's always that chance of them not getting used or not making it on the final lay-out of the pages so it's best not to preempt things. I'm extremely happy (insert synonyms) as this comes to me as a validation of some sort! Been reading GARAGE forever and to see my designs on their pages on the same time I launched Fifth Code last year gives me the chills. Timing is everything.

Posting about gimmicks and random hangouts with friends died a natural death right about the end of high school. I think. Or maybe when I started having my own custom domain and had the innate pressure of putting out something substantial for a change. But there's no denying I miss seeing faces on my blog of actual friends. People I actually know and who read my blog because they were used to being blogged about. Hahaha.

Spent my Monday and Wednesday with these people who I haven't seen for the longest time. Best pal Esty celebrated her birthday last Monday at Sambojokin... Samboko... Sambokojin (!!!!) in Eastwood! It was pretty sweet seeing everyone make time for her despite Pedring's rage. And met-up with everyone yet again for a lunch in BonChon Katip because I had to give Roi the blazers to be used for a UP ADHOC event this Friday. (See invite here)

Let's see, I've done lookbooks of Andres Espinosa, Zac Efron and uhh Miley Cyrus. Hahah there's just something about looking consistent that makes me inspired style-wise. Effort can really be seen though it doesn't come off as trying too hard... you know what I'm saying? As the great Ralph Lauren once put it, "personal style is having fun with fashion but always being true to yourself".

Now, Ryan Gosling has this right down pat. Starting to notice his stylish sensibilities lately especially since after watching "Crazy, Stupid, Love." That movie was brilliant for words and Ryan Gosling's whole look looked like it just came off the pages of GQ. I've come to conclude that ever since "Lars and The Real Girl" he has been decidedly fashionable and I wish there was a stylist to point a finger at for this progress. But it looks like it's all him. Clean, crisp, killer sartorial choices. I'm a fan.

Going to events is one of those things I have to be extra finicky about because I live far. But to be invited to attend Garage's Street Dapper Kings slash 3rd Anniversary Party was a no brainer --- I had to witness this event. Haha. It was my first time to go and I had a blast seeing everyone from magazine editors, stylists, photographers, models and the ubiquitous bloggers. Fun night celebrating the continuous success of Garage Magazine and the 9 style icons they were commending that night! Garage has always been on the forefront of making every guy dress-up better and with them going monthly starting this October, it is a testament that they are doing the best possible job at it. "I am always happy when I'm surrounded by water. The ocean really makes me feel small and it puts my whole life into perspective. It reminds me that, okay, I'm this very little piece of this huge earth and it humbles you and it grounds you."

I just lifted it from somewhere and I wish those were my words. I've always said that this is not a fashion blog. There neither are outfit photos nor pictures of the food I had for lunch. (Not that there is anything wrong with it, it's just that there are other bloggers who are quite good with that. Besides, what I eat is not anything out of the ordinary. And if I did I'll probably blog about it too. Hahah!) And so, every chance I get, I shall blog based on what I feel I have to say. Blogging is a personal diary after all, right?

I guess it's one of those days that makes you realize a few things. With the rain outside and I'm immobile in my bed, my brain begins to wander around. I'm just so thankful for everything really. What are those things? Just everything in general. Reaching up to this point where I can say I'm quite happy with how things are. I've always felt like it is important for you to acknowledge this type of contentment and happiness. It is fleeting. The next day I will feel different but at least I know for a fact that today, I'm feeling pretty damn good about myself.

People have come and go and I've learned that it's fine. There's a reason why they don't make it to your future. I've made a lot of mistakes and pushed people away. But in the end, things work out just okay. Some things may not turn out for my favor and I may not get what I want all the time. But the reroute was where I was destined to be. Just a few weeks back, I felt the weight of the world on my shoulders and I was feeling pretty bad. But it's really true that things have to get worse before they start to get better. And they have. They really have.

I'm feeling very grateful for every opportunity that I have had, the people I have the privilege of meeting, all the possibilities and future plans just all look very exciting that I'm convinced more than ever that I'm in the right disposition.

That's really what this post is all about. The uncertainties and the hazy direction of my life before is now becoming more and more sure. I realized that it takes so much time for other people to know what they want and I'm lucky that I already know my gameplan. Success for me isn't about getting recognized. It isn't about the number of praises you get from random strangers. Rather it's about paying your dues and taking the time to learn the craft and actually excelling at it. Success shouldn't be chased. It's always the need to quench that longing for fame that makes it all too sudden that the next thing you know--- it's gone.

So this is already the concluding paragraph. Haha. I may have bored the hell out of you but I hope you picked up a few insights along the way. I'm not anywhere near the beach but yes, definitely, it's very easy to lose yourself in this blogging world where everyone just praises everyone left and right. It's nice to filter it out sometimes and be dubious about success. I never want to lose that instinct of being self critical. I'm also lucky that most of my friends tell me the truth right away and never attempt at sugar coating.

This has been going on for so long now so I'll just end by saying, thank you for reading and I hope you just keep at it at what you are doing! Strive for excellence and success will follow through! :D

My parents just got back last July 23 from their 16-day US vacation!! Definitely missed their presence in my life but I'm just glad they found time for each other again! During their stay they've been to over 9 states already (Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, New York plus the district of Washington D.C.) visited my brother working in Indianapolis, met-up with some relatives staying there and went all tourist crazy in all the must-see places. It makes me grin so wide seeing all the photos of my parents so full of love. Hahah.

P.S. I'm so proud of my mom for taking some beautiful photos! Was worried sick they'd call me back home complaining about their camera issues. Haha Surprised she's such a pro at this!

The Transformers is one movie series I have kept up with. I couldn't miss the chance of seeing all the action and explosives on the big screen. Surely wouldn't do justice if I was just watching it on my laptop, earphones plugged. Wasn't disappointed with the third installment although Megan Fox was that fixture you knew should have been there. (Though as Shia has said that their love story couldn't move much further than what it had had.) This one's more action-packed than the past two. What didn't change? The movie's longevity that makes one long for the ending asap. Haha. At 25, Shia has a lot going on for him. Something Louis Stevens wouldn't have ever imagined.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL HOUSE IN MANILA

You all could be bragging about your modern houses, how the walls are in pristine white, solid and bold colors as accents and unique furnitures to match. However, nothing is as charming as a place as old as time. I'm a big fan of anything vintage and when my mom asked us to go to this house-turned-restaurant somewhere in Manila I was completely floored by the antiquity of the place. We drove all the way there, by the way, to celebrate my dad's birthday. My dad's one simple man and we haven't done anything quite like this before so it was a welcome change for everybody.

Having been built as early as the 1930's, the place has so much history and your imagination can go wild when you think about who might have lived there and what they were like. But one thing's for sure... they were mighty rich. The place exuded old world charm like no other place I've been to in Manila. And before I forget, it is also a fine dining restaurant that served the most scrumptious meals one couldn't discount them for. They prepared food that were also popular during the Spanish times. I had a grand time and it was one of those memorable dining experiences I have ever had so far. Time froze at that moment for us.

I've said it once and I'll say it again: I love ad campaigns. Mainly the reason why I took up my course is because I want full creative control on the marketing/advertising side of fashion. (Or at least for my own line. That is.) And Dolce and Gabbana's ad campaigns are by far the most put together visual feast one can lay their eyes on. Hence, D&G's Fall/Winter 2010 Ad Campaign is a favorite because i'm biased about military and aristocratic style. Perfect and captivating.

I don't know how to describe this whole set aside from saying that this set is true to Maverick's personal style. Very British-indie-hipster-straight-out-of-the-pages-of-Nylon type of styling. Hahah! Something I wouldn't typically wear but hey, it was fun trying out the look. (Probably doing the socks thing over pants cause I liked the snug fit. Haha!) We were all over the place but somehow it looked very cohesive. Again, really liked the treatment! Good job, Nikki!!! So proud!

David's set! Styling, post-process, and lay-out all by the blogger extraordinare! Haha. Have to say that this is the edgiest among the three lay-outs and that it has a very strong concept. Those bone necklaces we were sporting were even pulled-out by David from OS Accessories. Really liked the one I wore though Mavs and I agreed that we wished their chains were longer. Haha! Last set that we shot and we were dead tired by the day's end. Congrats Nikki!

So refreshing to see them wearing stuff apart from their usual edgy outfits. (Although they still placed their own spin to what they were wearing.) Truthfully I'm one of those who judged by the book's cover. No matter how many times people will tell me there's much more to it than meets the eye, I'm relentless when I'm not impressed by what I see. Haha. Rogue's one of those local magazines that you have to keep tabs on monthly. They are undoubtedly at par with international titles and I still keep close by my bedside table their July 2008 Anne Curtis issue. That cover was perfect I wanted to have it framed.

I don't religiously buy Rogue because sometimes I chance upon an opened copy and money's too precious nowadays to splurge on a magazine. Rogue, however, makes it much harder for me to pass on an issue. Style Editor L.A. Consing Lopez is responsible why I can't take my eyes off on their covers. He's exceptionally well at what he does!

The few times I just have to buy Rogue, it's never a purchase I regret. What always happens instead is the need to have it framed.

March 14, 2011- Had the privilege, once again, of working for Sassa and this time, it was to assist for her show at Philippine Fashion Week recently. Even if I may not be around her all the time, as her intern, I always try to extend my help in whichever way I can. Last time I helped out was almost 8 months back and the timing was right to get back on board for Team Sassa. Haha. Seriously though, the opportunity to be around her and the exposure I get has been great! It has been so worthwhile for someone like me who is into this field. Nothing beats real life education and I thank Sassa for tagging me along in events such as these.

May 6-9, 2011 -- Boom! Sought the heatwave that is Ilocos (as if Manila's heat wasn't hard enough to bear already) for a trip planned for the reunion of my mom's side of the family and since traveling is a hobby everyone's game enough to indulge. More or less an 8-hour roadtrip, it was definitely not easy for my dad who was the one driving while the others were in the other car. It was my first time to go there and there's just so much beauty to see that you wonder how come it's not on most people's places-to-go-to list. :| "One of the ways you develop national pride is by traveling your own country" that quip by my mom has been engraved on my consciousness . I like the thought that the farthest we've been to up north is in Sagada and well, Davao as for the farthest down south! Would really like to go to Bohol soon, that's one of the places I haven't been to yet. :)

First stop Ilocos Sur! This was in "Baluarte". I know the name of the place sounds so intimidating. Haha. Appropriately owned by Gov. Chavit Singson, the place is massive in proportions and above is the on-going construction of his simple house. Yes, the sycamore tree sitting on top of it IS part of the design. And instead of dogs, he has tigers lying around his estate. Goes to show that he is really just like the rest of us! Hahahah I'm kidding. Fascinated by those hung deer head or whatever you call them. Creepy but interesting. Second stop: Vigan! And this is what you call co-existing. Past meets present. Souvenir card worthy photo don't you think? Rhetorical. Liked how they preserve the authenticity of the heritage place! Arrived in Fort Ilocandia, Ilocos Norte at around 11pm. It's a Hotel/Resort/Casino and that's where we stayed during our ugh, stay. It's a fortress... again in massive proportions. Haha! I think that the land is so vast elsewhere but Manila! The place is filled with portraits of Former First Lady Imelda Marcos. Love her, hate her you have to admit she's quite a character! You'll admire her beauty when you see her countless photos. Everywhere you look in Fort Ilocandia is photoshoot worthy! You'll forget you are in the Philippines and can mistake it for say Europe even! Malacanang of the North. Such a place exists. These two knew what style and class and being timeless meant. I think it holds true for them that "Image is everything." Hahaha Am I in Thailand? But the one place I was excited for was the Windmills!!! Kept seeing this magnificent place in DOT commercials and postcards so I had to do this "I-made-it-here" stance. My parents really don't want me to blog about them. They don't know why, unlike them, I don't know the concept of privacy. Hahaha but this is one cute picture! :D At a beach resort in Pagudpud!!! Quiet, serene and free from the crowd, the place is a shang-rila! Went back to the hotel after the sunset. Packed up the next day and drove all the way back to Vigan to watch Manny Pacquiao's fight and then...Drove back to Manila under extreme rainfall! (I know I've been excessive with the exclamation points! Hahahah) And that is all my friends. Make sure you guys visit the North. :) The sights are priceless... (as you can see) :)

It's time for Philippine Fashion Week again and it's funny because being with Esme (esmepalaganas.tumblr.com) all the time, she talks about her stint as a PR Associate for Runway and I'm always hearing all the nitty gritty work they do for this. Haha. Would've loved to watch the collections of Chris Diaz, M Barretto and Bang Pineda but... turning them in for trips to Ilocos, Batangas and watching the Biebs live. HAHA (My sister. Go figure.)

During Holy Week, I was able to fix my room up and re-organize some things here and there and a much wider space showed up. See those polaroid photos stuck on the wall? That's what my super good friend Ariana (6weeks.tumblr.com) got me when she went to New York recently! She got these decor frames from Urban Outfitters. That's what she got me after I asked her to get me "something cool."

Did you know that they try to change what the mannequins are wearing at least weekly? Topman Rockwell also replenishes their stocks every week so they have more updated merchandise compared to other branches. Topman really does follow the international retail standards. The lay-out, merchandising and store display have to be based on the brochures the flagship store in London gives them! Even the hangers and other promotional materials are all imported and have to be placed exactly as how they are instructed to. Being incredibly partial to Topman because it's the only RSSI brand I patronize. For obvious reasons. Haha! Meet Aki Sumulong from Ateneo & Jessica Choy from Poveda! Fun people! Sir Jason, Topman's Store Manager. Stock Room! If I haven't stressed it enough, it's my lifelong dream to go to London for this. The place to be one day: Oxford Street to visit the flagship store of Topman and for other high street brands! Daniel and Tara dropped by one time! Commercial break! Was with Lyka and Tin for the SOFA styling session by Alyanna Martinez last April 9 Haha! Tin Iglesias actually is my co-intern and she's more than what you read in her blog and a lot of fun to be with actually! Couldn't wait to see her again and talk about more things! The culminating fashion show at Greenbelt 3!

April 4 - April 15, 2011 - Unable to respond to a query for a moment you will notice a change in the customer’s voice or she might raise her eyebrows at you. It’s as early as 11am but upon greeting the shoppers they’ll look at you as if it’s a sin to be happy. It might be just the start but it’s almost as if they have problems worthy of the day’s end. Working as an intern as part of RSSi’s summer program lasted for two weeks and we were immersed at how a sales associate life is. And yes, mind you, we call them sales associates now. Calling them as a salesman or saleslady is ancient history.

A proud customer of their brand, visiting a branch would entail scrounging the entire store looking for a bargain or that particular piece that I just had to have. It would also include trying on clothes maybe countless of times, asking for the next size over and over again and in some instances just leave the changing room without buying anything. That wasn't really a problem on my point of view. But hence the tables were turned and as much as I wanted to sit down waiting for my customer to try on his or her garment I couldn’t. Asked for the next size, I had to rush and get back the soonest possible time. And no matter how cold or condescending a customer maybe, the most I could do was smile. Seriously, I was asked why I was quite comfortable with the English language and that I was just a salesman made it all the more impossible. That was such a low blow.

Just one of the perks of being an intern was that staying in the store for a good 5 hours would guarantee spotting a famous person dropping by. At every blink a familiar face shows up whether it is a socialite, a TV personality, a well-known stylist or the budding actress, almost everyone shops at our store. Ironic how by just staying at one place I was able to see everyone I had the intention of meeting. But then again I was stationed in Rockwell. Haha!

The experience was humbling and it taught me what it feels like to be in the seller's shoes. I had the first hand experience of being of service to these customers and while also mingling with my fellow sales associate knew that they offer more insights about them that you initially think! I say my perspective changed now when I have to go inside a store and just window shop, I'll probably be more friendly and chat it up with whoever is attending me, after all I know how boring it gets. Also, it wouldn't hurt if you smile at them and respond with the warmest of greeting! The thing is everyone is a sales associate really, may you be a teacher or a doctor you still are trying to convince someone to get you or buy something from you. Everyone's offering their services and I think being a sales associate is not something you can afford to look down on.

Native Prints are the New Plaid! Severely engrossed with this trend and I just want to collect more and more items with Aztec, Navajo, Mayan, Batik or whatever Native American prints on them. It's quit a loud item to be worn but then again I love how busy and interesting they are, making an instant statement. One of the biggest trends for Spring/Summer 2011 and I just remember how last year it was all about the military/band jackets and anything structured. (Heck, I even made a blog post out of it.) I'm all for a trend that could be appreciated by both guys and girls and hopefully this doesn't die down! As the world continues to evolve, we tend to rediscover the old cultures and have fun with it. And that's why fashion never gets boring.

Surely for someone to create a very detailed artwork such as above, he would find the task of designing Fifth Code's new logo a minuscule challenge. Meet the man who's responsible for the new logos for my eponymous blog and Fifth Code, Jake Ruiz (jakeruiz.tumblr.com)! Yes, he is the brother of Nikki (nmgruiz.tumblr.com), my equally talented photographer friend who has been building her portfolio taking beautiful portraits of people, dabbling in events photography and taking pictures for online stores. When Nikki told me that Jake was a graphic designer-slash-illustrator and that I could get him to design one for Fifth Code I was excited for the possibilities! Graphic design would always be my first love and I didn't know of anyone just yet who did it as a profession, earned money out of it and who has actually gained recognition for his craft. (Jake has won the the 1st runner up in a Giordano Shirt Design Contest and has won the consolation prize in a national art contest for Toyota. He has clientele not only here in the country but also abroad.) I jumped on the opportunity and the results were what I had hoped for and more! Personally, I think of these two as design power siblings. Their interests go hand in hand making them a tough tandem to beat! So much hope for these two and this won't be the last time I will collaborate with Jake on something! Haha.

FIFTH CODE V.3

One, Two... Three! We're on our third run now and glancing back at the progress of this small online shop I put up makes me proud that it's constantly improving. Never choosing to stay in its comfort zone and always trying to make it fresh. I'm really surprised by how everything has been providential. People just appear in the picture and contribute so much more than what I actually expect out of them. I'm very thankful for my friends who take the time to help me out just to make my vision come true. This, to date, has been the most fun I had for a shoot!!

We did this last March 26, 2011 with the Patty Mendoza (pmgmendoza.blogspot.com) in charge of photography. Pat Nabong (dorkoinvasion.tumblr.com) and Aldrich Lim (diveclimbsurf.tumblr.com) took the clips for the video and Nikki Ruiz (nmgruiz.tumblr.com) took some shots for the BTS. Lyka Orhel (lykaorhel.blogspot.com) and Esme Palaganas (esmepalaganas.tumblr.com) were there to lend a hand while Wency Ang (wencyang.tumblr.com) (did the make-up as Isa couldn't stay for long) also booked the model for the shoot. Lui Sunico modeled for Fifth Code for this collection and he embodied the concept of party fatigue quite well. Didn't need much pep talk cause he just went for it. He knew what he needed to do! No one ever does it alone and I'm extremely lucky to have an awesome team like you guys! (And if ever you have projects in mind, please do not hesitate to visit these people's websites and email them!)

Sold over 15 blazers already, some using the available designs or others asking for custom made pieces. It's a very personal transaction every single time and it's safe to say I've gained friends with the clients who ask to have a blazers made. It takes so much out of my time but I enjoy the process more than anything! And as my mom said, no one's in a rush so I'm taking my pace with Fifth Code. Just always continuous in it's delivery of exceptional blazers. And if there's one thing all of you have to look forward to that's the one year anniversary of Fifth Code on October. Convinced my parents to go to Hamilo Coast for an overnight stay in our barely used condo. HAHA. They decided to let the madness die down first so we left yesterday afternoon and got there by dusk. I missed Pico de Loro! And the only edge it has over Anvaya Cove is that we have a place to stay there whenever we arrive. Awesome family bonding time and now more than ever I felt like it was such a much needed rest for my mom and dad! Looking forward to bringing some friends over there when the opportunity arises! ...And when I finally get my license. Official Summer Break starts on May 4!!! Let the countdown begin.

April 15, 2011 (Friday) --- So having my blog inaccessible and stagnant for the past month has left me with tons of blog posts to do. For those thinking that I'm done with blogging that will never be the case as I'm very dedicated in maintaining my little piece of cyberspace. And a string of new bloggers may arrive but this will still remain uncategorized and I will be posting whatever suits my taste.

Have been swamped with a lot of things to do lately for which I'm very thankful for. I'd take stress over being a bum and wasting away. I was balancing my acads with the recently concluded Robinson's Store Specialist Summer Internship. It was a fun experience just being able to be a sales associate for my favorite brand, Topman, as well as other stores such as Topshop, Dorothy Perkins and Trucco. Learned so much, met so many and gained bountiful knowledge about the world of retailing. A much more in-depth blog post right after Finals Week I promise. Just had to post something to let you know that this blog is alive and kicking.

March 27, 2011 (Saturday) -- I'm never the one to pass up on an opportunity to try out something I've never done before. This was my third time to work with Patty (pmgmendoza.blogspot.com). The first time was being asked my her to style for another fun shoot and the second was when I got her to take photos for Fifth Code's third collection (Which happened the day before this shoot for W Talent). I just thought they'd be random models with unheard of names but was surprised to find out that I'd be styling Channel V's Alvin Alfonso and the Azkals Neil Etheridge. Pretty big names for a freelance like me. Through Patty we were able to pull-out stuff from Commune Manila (www.communemnl.com) and almost all other clothing items used was my own. Very grateful for the experience and to be asked if I did magazine styling already because they liked my work proved that this could very well be a viable career. Haha.

Can't wait for Patty to release the official photos! Thanks for getting me Patty! :)

"Who here wants to be a designer?" Rajo asked when he was having a talk for SoFA October of last year. Almost everyone eagerly raised their hands up. "Well, take a good look of those people in front, behind, and right beside you, cause you will never know if these are the people you will be working with in the future."

Rajo was very collaborative for his second collection for Plains and Prints. It was formally launched at Whitespace in Pasong Tamo Ext. last Tuesday, March 1, 2011. “It’s very important if you’re a creative person that you surround yourself with people that you feel comfortable with," he says. Judging from the videos I saw that went viral I could say that this was an arduous concept he brought to life with help from others. And last night he shared the stage and credited those people.

I don't know the technical words to describe Mr. Rajo Laurel's collection aside from saying that from what I saw, the pieces were very versatile. I saw them transform from one kind of cut to another. The clothes were pretty and the print is distinct --- now a Rajo Laurel signature print! Anyway, he was very accommodating to me and had his picture taken with my friends that I brought! Probably concerned or having the need to entertain other guests, Rajo nevertheless took the time to talk to me. And I might not know him that well but I feel like I know him enough to say that he deserves all the success he is getting! :)

Congratulations Rajo! :DKiana, Wency, Kirsten, Carlos and Timo Cause I knew I had to have a snapshot taken with Preview's Associate Editor Ms. Daryl Chang and Creative Director Mr. Vince Uy! I'm sorry if the people in the fashion industry are my celebrities. :)))

Definitely the highlight of the night: Meeting Divine Lee! Nikki, Wency and I were saying how we would all want to go home with a picture with her. And so when she was nearing us, I approached her and asked if it was okay. :)) As soon as I told her that we read her tumblr, that was when she let her guards down and became the Divine Lee we love when she writes in her blog! She talked to us like we were her lifelong friends and for that she definitely is one of those most approachable people I've ever come across with. So thankful that I have been able to meet really successful yet very grounded individuals. :)

Halcyon (noun): idyllically calm and peaceful; suggesting happy tranquillity. Because Baguio was just that. A place where even just for three days (Friday till Sunday) I was able to be in a different place, free from the usual sights and sounds and away from the monotonous life at home. Was with family and we've been to Baguio before but it was our first time to go there to attend the Panagbenga Festival. And they say one should be a tourist of his own country first so this is our way to #helpDOT. :>

Left the house at 5:30 in the morning last Friday.Arrived past 2pm at The Manor. Philippine Tatler's Best Restaurant of 2008. :))Panagbenga when translated means Flower Festival. And here are the best floats for me: We were on top of a building during the parade and I actually saw travel and food blogger, Brian Ong of http://brianong.blogspot.com taking pictures and assiting Sec. Lim of DOT. :)) Sorry couldn't say hi from where I was at! :))Baguio was too damn cold. You never underestimate. Lesson learned. =))

Left Baguio last Sunday at past 2pm. :) HAHA. When I was in Baguio I brought all of my homeworks, plates and projects with me. I was very serious about finishing them even if I was on vacation but that was TOO IDEAL. Procrastination happened and then cramming all of them today. :)) Being at Baguio over the long weekend was so much fun and I can only wish going to a different destination weekly is attainable. :)

Ecks contacted me if they could use Fifth Code blazers for a fashion show in DLSU and I gladly obliged. This was the third event I lent the blazers to be used. The first two were for Ateneo parties so I was happy that I was able to sponsor for DLSU. Fair and Square. :)) Went inside to supposedly style the models but was too late to do so. Instead, Esme and I just hung-out with Ecks and talked about stuff behind-the-scenes. HAHA. Super fun to meet new people and hear that they like the blazers. I'm wondering though if I should release designs for girls since a lot of the feedback I keep on getting says the same thing. :)) Proud moment to see all the blazers be worn and modeled. I just met "the" Rajo

One can not talk about the local fashion industry and not mention Mr. Rajo Laurel. They go hand in hand like bread and butter, like Samson and Delilah and.... like any Pinoy meal always with the rice. Haha. Forgive my analogies but I hope you see the legitimacy of what I'm trying to say. :)) Rajo is one of my industry idols and when I was told that I was going to meet him, I did what all of you would do... I came prepared. But before anything else, before I even met him, I went to Celestina in Greenbelt 5 where we would meet. There I was greeted with a plethora of furniture and designer goods. I also got to meet Mr. Ricco Ocampo the husband of Ms. Tina Maristela- Ocampo, an entrepreneur and a furniture designer himself. Ms. Tina Ocampo is of course the designer behind Celestina minaudieres and handbags. Those luxurious, coveted "it" bags that we have seen on the hands of many Hollywood actresses.

Some of the illustrious actresses with their Celestina item.While waiting for Mr. Rajo to arrive I was left chatting with Mr. Ricco Ocampo and a friend. He's one of those genuine people that you immediately like. He grew up in Pampanga and is very fluent still in speaking his dialect. Considering that he has been all over the world, exposed to a variety of cultures and lifestyles, it's very refreshing to know that somehow he still is a very approachable guy. I had no qualms raising topics with him and talk about his family and his childhood... he was that easy to talk to! :) Meeting with @wehlorenz! Nice to meet young designers! (From Rajo's Twitter)When we had our picture taken, Mr. Ricco noticed how we were in coordinating get-ups to which Rajo replied that we were destined to meet. :> Hear, hear!Rajo arrived past 6 and it was very surreal meeting him. I have been an avid fan of his and I felt like I knew so much about him but, of course, that would be creepy if I said it right off the bat. I have attended his talk for SoFA wherein he pretty much detailed his rise to the top. I even remember his anecdote of how he first earned money as a kid by grooming stray kittens and selling them to his schoolmates. :)) Rajo is very nice and he told me that if I wanted to be a designer then it was important that I knew how to make clothes myself. (By third year I will! Still on my frosh year. Haha.) And I even showed him Fifth Code's website and he gave me some adviceshere and there. :D Rajo is everywhere. He is as ubiquitous as any celebrity which makes him one in his own right. By the time he left I told him that I was hoping he would remember me in the future, he smiled and said he never forgets anyone's name. :)
As I type right now, my heart's racing because I can't help but to mind the fact that the people I have just met have larger than live achievements. Google their names and try to pick up your jaw when you read how prolific they are. Their time is gold and for them to sit down, take an hour or so from their schedules and meet-up with a young dreamer like me is something I'm grateful for profusely. :) Now, we need not wonder why they are so blessed. Talent, which is God-given is rightly shared by inspiring the young. Little by little God is making my dreams come true. :)

My mom has been on repeat about me needing to draw again. She is updated about theSDAproject just as much as you are. HAHAHA. So yeahhh wait for the finished artwork on Sunday. Please appreciate the times I blog using my own photos. I don't use my G11 that much cause I like taking pictures using other people's cameras. Haha. It's not as easy as you think and I'm blogging this at 2:33 in the morning. Anyway, every Wednesday I only have an 8-10am class and I'm done for the day. Was supposed to meet a client in Podium but went to my mom's office in Ortigas to kill time instead and planned to go to Ateneo for an exhibit of Information Design students. Am never the one to pass up the chance to visit Ateneo to see my bestfriends Karl, Ryan and Estela! =)) So here's how it went......

She asked me to go to the exhibit and check out her thesis work!! :)For her thesis, she thought of having a manual for young guys that would be a complete guide for them in terms of grooming, style, attitude and everything in between. You think it's easy as a cake? It's a very well thought of work that's a year in the making. @__@ Talk about hard work. She made everything since this was an individual project. Gah, I got stressed for her when I learned about it. She relayed to me how she never even got to enjoy Christmas for this and basically went invisible to the world. =)) Haha. Well, at least she's done right? Thing I hate about the whole thing though is that BFA ID never teaches their students how to use Photoshop. :(( I can't think of a great analogy but I think that's really lame. :|Other booths in the exhibit:Proving that anybody can be creative by jazzing up a white shirt!Read this in her blog and this is Tin Iglesias' work for DIY or DIE.This is Elisa Aquino's for DIY or DIE.Another thesis was devoted to making great visuals for a classic read that's Ibong Adarna! Great Idea!BFA ID students...I think. Maybe some of them. =))Me and Ryan with the nicest couple around Jech and Bea! (Valentine Couple #4) :)))) Jech also is currently featured in Garage this month!! :DSome student also made a new font for his thesis. :) You could check out the exhibit till Friday and it's open for the public. Bea will have her talk today at 6pm at Gonzaga Theather in Ateneo. :) A lot of my friends, myself included, were supposed to take up Information Design just cause it's one of the newer courses offered and it was endorsed as "blurring the lines in graphic design, advertising and marketing..." I mean, who wouldn't want that right? BUT things I've been hearing from students who took this course aren't exactly raves but more of vents. =)))))))

Left Ateneo around 6 by taking the LRT 2 to Recto and transfer to Doroteo Jose to Vito Cruz. #commuterslife. That's Chik, Pia, Ryan, Deric, Lyka and Tine at KFC and I WAS DONE FOR THE DAY. Found out the internet in the dorm got fixed and blogged about today. GREAT.

Stache Magazine BTS

HAHA. So I forced myself to take "behind-the-scenes" photos of today's shoot. Elisa planned the whole thing for their Stache Magazine, which is a bimonthly online magazine that's devoted to bring the netizens the latest. She wanted to feature Fifth Code so that's why today happened. :)) (JSYK it's 12am so forgive the lousy write-up) She got David to model (who by the way is in the latest issue of Garage Magazine! GO GRAB A COPY!) and Angela Mulach for the girl's online store counterpart. The theme was young-valentine-let's-run-away-vibe shot in UP Diliman where it is free 24/7. The tandem of Pat Nabong as the photog and Esme Palaganas as the stylist were there in full force while Ariana was there cause she was all our friend. :D =)) My eyes are dropping as I type and as much as I want to elaborate on what happened let's just all sleep shall we? (yawn)
